Why is consistent Branding important?

Branding. A pretty all encompassing word when you really get into the nitty gritty of it.

As we at Shoelace like to say, "Branding is everything and everything is marketing" - something we'll get into more in a different article! Which is why it's so important to keep a consistent brand, internally and externally. Because not only will your customers develop an instant gut feeling about your brand associated with your branding, but it also will help define your workplace as well.

But wait, you say - "Shoelace, how do define our branding and how the hell do we keep it consistent?".

And we get it, keeping all of the graphics up to date, ensuring that everything looks consistent across different platforms and mediums is daunting. Ensuring that the language used is similar, that staff's approach to business operations is in a consistent way and it's really easy to get caught up in a whirlwind of how much orange is too much orange?

It's actually easier than you think.

To start, you need to define the core principle of your brand. And we mean really define it. Try to distill your whole business and the feeling you want it to convey into less than 3 words. Once you've defined this principle, you can build everything out from that and it will feel consistent.

For example our core principle is unbridled creativity. We want everything we do to embody and celebrate creativity, which is the main reason our main colour tone is a warm, inviting colour.

Now that's not say that you're brand can't evolve over time or change, but if you keep that core principle of your brand defined, then everything else will fall into place and be consistent.
