The challenge
The challenge.
Remote, every time. Farms and communities hundreds of kilometres apart, on tight windows.
Real people, not presenters. Finalists who had never been filmed before needed to feel at ease on camera.
Stories with weight. Some finalists' journeys included hard chapters that had to be handled with care.

What we did
Go to them.
The story is the place. Rather than bringing finalists to a studio, we took a small crew to each of them, and planned so carefully that the shoot felt like a conversation, not a production.
A film pack before we arrived
Every finalist got the schedule, locations, what to wear and the questions we'd ask, so there were no surprises on the day.
Logistics that bent to the story
Council permits secured at short notice for a heritage site on the NSW border, and in the Northern Territory a plane hired with the finalist's help so the crew could film her property from the air.
Care on the sensitive stories
When a finalist asked to see her film before the gala, we shared it with her first and added content warnings where needed.
Each finalist film runs about four minutes, with a short call-to-action cut to promote applications and content warnings where a story needed them.

The results
Two years, two premieres.
- 14 finalist films premiered at the national gala in 2025 and 2026.
- AgriFutures rebooked us for a second year, with gala event coverage both years.
- Two 2025 films were supplied to ABC Landline for a story.
- The 2026 gala recap was re-cut without sponsor branding to promote the 2027 award.
